MAZDA6 Rated at 43 MPG

Normally, when a car gets over 40 miles to the gallon you'd think it would be a small, Japanese hybrid vehicle. Well, this one is from Japan, but doesn't fit the usual criteria - it's Mazda.

The all new MAZDA6 is a mid-size sedan running on a regular internal combustion gas engine and still gets 43 miles to the gallon.

MAZDA6 hopes to obtain the 43 miles to the gallon rating with the use of old technology. Mazda seeks to bring the diesel engine back into fashion. In a time when gas prices fluctuate 50% in the course of one day, old school diesel fuel still keeps its worth and burns slower than unleaded fuel.

The 2.2 liter turbo diesel V6 in the 2011 MAZDA6 can hit upwards of 150 horsepower, and helps achieve the over 40 mile to the gallon rating.

Mazda is also banking that their updated MAZDA6 will attract more fleet sign ups.

Fleet sales normally go to rental car companies or large corporations. Up to March 31, 2011 Mazda expects to sell more than 50,000 Mazda6 models of which about 50% are predicted to be fleet sales - more than in Mazda's current fiscal year.
